Welcome to gMaps
This live site aims to demonstrate some of the features, functions and styles that gMaps has to offer...
The first feature is this splash page, which can be turned on for just the homepage, every page, or no page, can also be independently controlled by each individual blog or over-written centrally by one master administrator. In addition, it may also be set to display every time a person visits the site or just for the first time they visit, which is usually recommended. We will however in this demo have this page displayed each time someone visits this central homepage, as it will be the only page on any of the blogs that will feature it.
Speaking of blogs, we are using those as ways to demonstrate some of the built in style options, where this main master blog is using the default theme. We have other choices of colour and different independent animation settings, along with the choice for Google Maps API 2 (the only way to offer inline advertising) or even Google Maps API 3, which is much smoother and more feature rich).
We will use the BuddyPress Community Pages to showcase the different marker and cluster styles available. The clustering can be controlled on a per blog basis and the styles for these clusters and markers can also be controlled by each individual user or once again over-written (as many features can) by the master administrator. For the sake of this demo site, we are using clustering on all pages, as non-clustered maps are usually recommended for sites that wish to display fewer markers, but as mentioned, we will showcase the different styles of clusters (and markers) through the different BuddyPress user pages.
